VOLATILE ORGANIC COMPOUNDS
Volatile Organic Compounds or VOCs are a large group of carbon based compounds that easily become vapors or gases. Along with carbon, they contain elements such as hydrogen, oxygen, fluorine, chlorine, bromine, sulfur, or nitrogen. These compounds can be found in paints, wood preservatives, aerosol sprays, pesticides, gasoline, dry cleaning solvents, degreasing agents, and other industrial solutions. Most VOCs can be detected by odor but the only way to know the actual concentration in water is by sampling and testing.
