BAD TASTE/SMELL

The three most common smells and tastes include earthy, “rotten egg”, and metallic. An earthy taste or smell may be caused by algae. The “rotten egg” smell is typically caused by hydrogen sulfide, and while it is not harmful to ingest, it can certainly make your water unappealing to drink. Metallic tastes are usually caused by the presence of iron, copper, manganese, and zinc in the water supply. Some contaminant odors are noticeable even when present in extremely small amounts, making it very difficult to identify or remove the odor-producing substance.
